Shaping Smiles, Building Confidence

Common Causes of Los Angeles Bicycle Accidents

When bicycles and motor vehicles collide, it is the bicyclist who suffers the most significant injuries. Injuries often include: broken bones, back injuries, and even brain injury. However, the driver of the motor vehicle often causes the accident.

Some common causes of bicycle accidents include:

  • Distracted driving
  • Impaired driving
  • Drowsy driving
  • Speeding
  • Lane changes
  • Failure to yield
  • Aggressive driving
  • Dooring
  • Failure to obey traffic signs and signals
  • Sideswiping a bicyclist
  • Failure to look before turning in front of a bicyclist

Additional common causes of bike accidents that may be actionable but don’t directly implicate the conduct of a motorist include: Bicycle or motor vehicle defects, inadequate vehicle maintenance, and ill-maintained roads.

Common Bike Accident Injuries

Bicycle accidents, like most incidents on the road, can result in anything from minor injuries to devastating long-term damage. In many cases, state laws require bicyclists to share roadways with passenger vehicles and trucks. Unfortunately, bicycles provide far less protection to riders compared to regular vehicles. Consequently, when accidents occur involving bicycles, cyclists often sustain more severe injuries than motorists due to the lack of outer protection. These injuries can be divided into three main categories: external, internal, and neurological.

Common bicycle accident injuries we represent clients for include:

  • Spinal cord injuries
  • Concussions
  • Broken bones
  • Traumatic brain injuries
  • Scrapes and bruises
  • Road rash
  • Internal bleeding
  • Dismemberment
  • Scarring and
  • Sprained or pulled muscles
  • Wrongful Death

Bicycle accidents can cause significant damage that usually requires medical attention and ongoing rehabilitation. That’s why it’s imperative that if you have sustained these or other injuries in a California bicycle accident, you not only seek medical attention as soon as possible but also speak with a qualified personal injury attorney to discuss your options for legal advice and recovery.

Common Bike Accident Injuries

No matter the cause of a bicycle accident, victims often find themselves facing serious financial burdens as they struggle to recover. Compensation for a bicycle accident includes past, current, and future accident-related expenses. Statute of Limitations for a Bike Accident in California

In California, the statute of limitations for personal injury and wrongful death claims after a bicycle accident is generally two years from the date of the accident. Once this time has passed, you will no longer be able to make a claim for compensation. It is important that you contact an experienced bicycle accident lawyer right away so that they can help protect your rights and assist you in obtaining the compensation you deserve.

Browse our list of frequently asked questions about Self-ligating Braces orthodontic treatment. If you can't find the answer you're looking for, don't hesitate to reach out to our Smile Exchange Orthodontics team—we're here to guide you through every step of your orthodontic adventure, from braces to retainers and beyond.
01. Do Damon Braces and Damon Clear Self-ligating Braces Work as Well as Regular Metal Braces?
Self-ligating braces are as efficient and effective as standard metal braces. In fact, many patients who use self-ligating braces may benefit from shorter treatment times because they inherently have less friction in the overall system which can result in faster treatment times.
02. Are Damon Braces as Noticeable as Traditional Metal Braces?
Damon braces are smaller and less noticeable than other types of metal braces allowing for a more aesthetically pleasing experience.
03. Will I Still Need to Visit the Orthodontist as Often as if I Wore Traditional Metal Braces?
At Smile Exchange Orthodontics we still like to see ALL of our patients every 6-8 weeks regardless of the system they’re using. These self-ligating braces, such as the Damon Braces, advocate less visits to the office because it doesn’t require changing of the O-ties that are utilized in traditional metal braces. Some self-ligating braces companies recommend returning to the office every 12 weeks or longer.
Dr. Raffi Partamian DDS still prefers seeing all patients more frequently for the following reason: If we place Damon Braces on a patient and they go home and break a bracket that same night (sometimes they may not know if something is broken) and they wait 12 weeks or longer to come back, we just lost 12 weeks of treatment. Yes, we want to see our patients every 6-8 weeks and that appointment will be quick and short, but at least it’s supervised and guided to make sure the patient is on track and that we’re not losing valuable time in treatment.
04. How Much Do Self-ligating Braces Cost?
The cost of self-ligating braces can range from $2,500 to $8,000, depending on the complexity of your bite and/or malocclusion.
